Winners of the 33rd annual ICCI Health & Social Care Bursary announced
Today, Insurance Corporation celebrated the 33rd anniversary of our Health & Social Care Bursary. The Bursary is the only awards scheme in the Bailiwick promoting and celebrating health and wellbeing in the Bailiwick.
For over 30 years Health and Social Care staff have been invited to submit their ideas to improve the health or social care provision in the Bailiwick, with those projects deemed most beneficial to the Bailiwick community receiving an award. Insurance Corporation is very proud to have made this contribution to our local community life for so long. The highlight for us is seeing the projects come to life and making a difference in the Bailiwick and internationally, thanks to our Bursary.
Earlier this month, a panel of judges from HSC and Insurance Corporation heard presentations from each of the four finalists, finding out more about their ideas and how they envisioned they would help patients, families and the community in the future.
The Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland announced the winners of the 2024 Health & Social Care Bursary as Ben Newell & Frances Heaume, who will receive £3,000 towards their project ‘The ADHD Journey Hub'. Ben & Frances explained that referrals for ADHD assessments to CAMHS have surged, leading to a 235% increase since 2021. Families now face over a year's wait for psychiatric feedback, with limited support available. The Bursary will fund a new website which will be developed to educate families, demystify ADHD and provide local resources and strategies for support.
Deputy Bailiff Jessica Roland said....
One of the joys of my job is coming to events like these and meeting some amazing people working in health & social care. I feel incredibly privileged to be able to hand out these awards. Thank you to Insurance Corporation for your 33 years of support of Peter Walpole's original idea of the Bursary.
This Bursary feels like such a win win situation for Guernsey. It is corporate social responsibility at its very best, the commitment of a local business truly giving back to its community through members of the community.
Well done to all those who entered, your ideas and innovation are incredible and many, many congratulations to all the winners.
The runner up award was presented to Victoria Wiskin for her child's growth & development MECSH programme which will aim to help parents learn effective communication and play techniques with their children through age-specific sessions, encouraging greater engagement in their child's growth & development. Research has shown that by interacting & engaging properly with a child in their first year, it prevents long term challenges with their growth & development later on in life.
At the awards ceremony, we were also delighted to announce that the remaining two finalists - Kirsteen Heneghan & Kay Fussey 'CUE Project' and Nigel Harris & Tom Rigby 'Outdoor Nordic Walking Project', who received Highly Commended Certificates, projects will also be fully supported by HSC.
