Fresh New Look For Island Favourite Competition

Environmentalists and eco-friendly gardeners have had the chance once again to win £ 2,000 with this year's 2011 Insurance Corporation Conservation Awards.  The event, which is open to any private individual, club, company or organisation and to any educational institution too.

Congratulations to Le Chemin du Trésor, Guernsey

A woodland and meadow walk on the land below St Peter's Church has won this year's Guernsey Award.  The natural space at the heart of the parish was overgrown, choked and untended until it was rediscovered, regenerated and reopened in 2009.

"We were greatly impressed," says chairman of Insurance Corporation and founder of the competition, Peter Walpole.  "What particularly pleased us was the degree of community involvement, it really is charming oasis hidden away to be discovered by islanders and natural wildlife."

Close contest for top Guernsey school

After a close contest in this year's competition, the top school was awarded to Forest Primary School who win £ 1,000 spread over three years to further develop their conservation garden while the special 21st anniversary prize of £500 went to Le Murier School.  Each school that enters also received a bird box and fruit tree courtesy of Earlswood Nursery Garden Centre.
