New Sponsors Of The Channel Islands Muratti
The most famous football competition in the Channel Islands has a new local sponsor.
Insurance Corporation of the Channel Islands are proud to announce they have agreed a three-year deal with the Guernsey Football Association on behalf of the Inter-Insular Committee, which runs the annual Muratti Vase competition.
The Muratti has a proud history dating back to 1905, involving the best footballers from Guernsey, Jersey and Alderney.
GFA Chairman Chris Schofield said: ‘I am delighted that we have been able to secure another high-profile Channel Island business to sponsor this most prestigious of competitions in the CI sporting calendar.
‘I am enthused by the Insurance Corporation’s obvious commitment to the competition and look forward to working with them to make Muratti Day even more of an occasion.’
Insurance Corporation previously sponsored the Junior Muratti, the under-18 inter-insular, which dates back to the 1920s, for the past three seasons.
Managing director Glyn Smith has played in schoolboy, junior and senior Murattis.
‘As a truly local insurer, at Insurance Corporation we believe that it is important for us to put something back into our communities and to consider opportunities which are close to the hearts of both our team and our customers,’ he said.
‘For many people, the Muratti is the highlight of the sporting year. It is a big part of our heritage and our sporting culture and I am delighted that Insurance Corporation has the opportunity to work closely with the Inter-insular Committee to ensure that the next three years are an exciting advert for Channel Islands football.’
This season’s fixtures are scheduled for Saturday 16 March, when Alderney host Jersey in the semi-final, with the final in Guernsey on Sunday 5 May. The women’s Muratti final takes place the previous day, 4 May.
