Underwriter

Purpose of the role

We are seeking a confident, engaging and experienced Underwriter/Insurance professional to join our Commercial team. You will be responsible for underwriting cases within agreed processes and risk appetite, to achieve business development and retention targets. You will play a pivotal role within our business, assisting with the performance and success of our Commercial team.

You will spend the majority of your time working with our brokers identifying, discussing, negotiating and converting new and existing business opportunities and making effective underwriting decisions. You will apply a range of underwriting, relationship management and business development techniques to retain existing and win new business opportunities, within our defined risk appetite. You will have a passion for service delivery, great customer relationship skills and be a good communicator and team player.

As a key member of the Commercial Underwriting Team, the majority of your time will be spent delivering underwriting decisions. These will include risk assessment and risk management, referring cases outside personal authority limits and managing customer interactions. You will assist in maintaining and developing an underwriting/client portfolio and supporting colleagues in the wider team as required.

Skills & experience required

Ideally you will have underwriting experience/industry experience and possess CII qualifications. Experience of working with insurance brokers across a range of insurance products would be beneficial. You will be self-motivated, organised, be able to work under own initiative to deadlines and committed to providing excellent customer service with close attention to detail and accuracy.
