ICCI Continue to Invest in Local Healthcare
We were delighted to attend the opening of the Le Marchant Ward Therapy Garden at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Michelle Green & Francesca McLuskey of the Physiotherapy Department entered the 2016 ICCI Healthcare Bursary and were chosen as winners for their concept of a Therapy Garden to support rehabilitation for the patients from Le Marchant Ward.
Michelle Green told us, “When we entered we never expected to win! This has allowed us to now build a garden that gives our patients, and their friends and families, a place to gather and work on aspects of their recovery.”
“Some of our long term patients will also be able to watch their own produce grow and take it to sessions in the kitchens too.”
The Therapy Garden will have veg beds, herb gardens, and a flower garden to encourage well-being and recovery.
Michelle went on to tell us, “We are also getting a greenhouse to add to the experience, thanks to further donations from Guernsey Therapy Group, and we’ve had the timber for the raised beds donated by Only Fools & Donkeys and soil kindly given by Stan Brouard.”
When asked why she would recommend other healthcare providers entering the next ICCI Healthcare Bursary Awards, Michelle said, “Winning this has been a catalyst for other events and new partnerships. I’d encourage anyone to enter as it’s been of great benefit to us here at the PEH.”
We’re delighted at ICCI to have been able to support such worthy causes and we’re continuing to be committed to developing healthcare in the island with our Bursary Awards. Further details about how to enter the Awards this year will be published in September.
